February 2010 Newsletter - Winter Olympics Edition

News & Record Joins the Team

If you have been eagerly following the excitement of the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games in the media, then you probably have a feel for just how important good media coverage is for a major event. Strong coverage is able to bring out athlete stories, underscore the drama of the competition, explain the fine points of the sport, and draw the audience into the action.

"That is why we are so pleased to be able to announce the News & Record, Greensboro and Guilford County's leading newspaper, as our newest Media & Marketing partner for the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships," said Hill Carrow, Chairman of North Carolina 2011, the local host committee for the Championships. "In addition, the News & Record has been in a leader in the community for over 100 years, so their major support of the Championships gives the event added credibility."

The News & Record will be a Diamond Media & Marketing Partner, the highest level of media & marketing partnership for the 2011 U.S. Championships. The News & Record will be supporting the Championships through advertising, special promotions, and a special section on the event, among others.

Vancouver Winter Olympics

Paul Wylie, North Carolina 2011 Honorary Chairman, was in Vancouver throughout the 2010 Winter Olympic Games serving as an NBC analyst. Meanwhile, NC 2011 Chairman HilL Carrow spent several days at the Games in Vancouver, meeting with U.S. Figure Skating and U.S. Olympic Committee executives, and of course, attending figure skating events.

"I was there for ice dancing," said Carrow, "and our top two teams did exceptionally well. It was a thrill to be there and the enthusiasm and excitement of the crowd, together with the incredible skating performances, was so inspiring."

The U.S. Figure Skating Olympic team scored very well in Vancouver, led by Evan Lysacek's gold medal in the Men's competition and the silver medal captured by the team of Meryl Davis and Charlie White in Ice Dancing.

2011 U.S. Championships on the Rise

The Winter Olympic Games isn't the only thing elevating awareness of the sport of figure skating in North Carolina. Our Host Committee for the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships has been doing a great job as well, installing banners, placing ads ,and making presentations all in the interest of stirring excitement across North Carolina for what promises to be the largest event in the state in 2011.

Here is a sampling of the ever-expanding 2011 U.S. Championships presence:
• The News & Record is doing a major ticket giveaway promotion
• Clear Channel Radio in the Triad is running ads and website takeovers on stations WMAG, WTQR, and 105.7 during the Winter Olympic Games
• PTI Airport has installed an attractive wall of major banners near the north ticket counters
• Capitol Broadcasting Company is running ads on Fox 50 in the Triangle
• The Greensboro Coliseum Complex has erected a very large exterior banner on the adjacent Canada Dry building

"We're definitely starting to hear some good buzz about it throughout the community." said Demp Bradford of the Greensboro Sports Commission. "And as we get closer to the event, this is just going to escalate."

NC 2011 Lands Legal Services

It takes a wide variety of supporters to make a big event successful, and, fortunately, the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships are picking up strong momentum in that regard. Prominent Greensboro law firm Hagan Davis Mangum Barrett Langley Hale PLLC will serve as the Official Legal Services Provider for the U.S. Championships.

Chip Hagan, partner at Hagan Davis said, "this is a very prestigious - perhaps once-in-a-lifetime - opportunity, and our partners are excited about playing a role to ensure the success of the U.S. Championships."

Hagan Davis was founded in 2007 and focuses on business issues and owners. Headquartered in downtown Greensboro the firm has 11 attorneys.
