December Update

December was a huge month for all things figure skating in Greensboro. December highlights included street banners installed along city streets and throughout the Coliseum complex, the Greensboro Holiday Parade with the 2011 U.S. Championships float, the annual Sealy/Fox8 Holiday Concert with the Greensboro Symphony, major ticket sales increases every week, and Sweeper training held concurrently with Opening Ceremonies rehearsals.

The Sealy/Fox8 Holiday Concert saw a crowd of more than 13,000 enjoy both local figure skaters and North Carolina - based U.S. Championships competitors Haley Dunne (junior ladies) and Miles Addison Kay Bergdolt (novice pairs) perform with local skaters. Both holiday spirit and U.S. Championships excitement were in the air!

Sweeper Training and Opening Ceremonies Rehearsals took place the afternoon and evening of Dec. 13. Sweepers and Opening Ceremonies participants came together from across both North and South Carolina for an evening of preparation for the U.S. Championships. There was widespread news coverage of the activities including a number of skater interviews.

Enthusiastic U.S. Championships volunteers promoted the Championships to crowds at numerous December events at the Coliseum including the Justin Bieber Concert (15,000+ attendance), UNC vs. Texas Basketball (20,000+ attendance), and Duke vs. UNC-G Basketball (22,000+ attendance). Special thanks to Harold Moag, Angela Carter and Patti Barnette for their hard work and great volunteer efforts.

"We are now in the final countdown and it is amazing to see the incredible momentum that is building for the 2011 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships!"
