Championships Take Flight With Official Logo

The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships are taking off-literally! - with the official logo designed by BEM Interactive of Greensboro. Featuring the iconic Wright Flyer, representative of North Carolina's place in history as the birthplace of aviation, the logo conveys the excitement and lofty aspirations embodied in hosting America's premier figure skating event in North Carolina for the first time ever!

Development of the new logo was a collaborative effort with BEM Interactive being assisted by MediaFit of Lewisville, Sports & Properties, Inc. of Cary, and U.S. Figure Skating. "It borders on 'design by committee'," said Hill Carrow, Chair of the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, "but we are very excited about the final logo design. It's top flight!" Lead designers at BEM Interactive were Patrice Kelly and Kathryn Brown.

Site Visit is Big Success

June 16-18 was all about the 2011 Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro. U.S. Figure Skating executives Bob Dunlop, Senior Director of Events, and Kevin Leonardo, Events Manager, conducted reviews of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex and Headquarters Hotel to prepare for the big event. They were joined on the tour by Mike Clayton, President, and Patrick Seltsam, Project Manager, of Ice Rink Events, the company providing the practice ice at the Coliseum Complex Special Events Center.

At the Sheraton Greensboro, Kelly Harill, Director of Sales, and Katie Sale, Sales Manager, helped map out the extensive U.S. Figure Skating room requirements for the event. Meanwhile, Brian Ambuehl, Sports Sales, and Ava Pope, Director of Sales, for the Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Marc Bush, President, and Demp Bradford, Director of Sports Events, of the Greensboro Sports Commission helped introduce Bob and Kevin to Greensboro attractions ranging from fine dining to golf, to Downtown Greensboro and Grandover.

Speakers Bureau Launches

The North Carolina 2011 Speakers Bureau has been launched with recent presentations to the Greensboro Rotary Club, which meets at the Greensboro Coliseum, and the Durham Sports Club, which convenes at Croasdaile Country Club. With approximately 120 attendees at each presentation, the Speakers Bureau is off to a strong start on its grassroots education and awareness efforts. To schedule a speaker at your club or group, contact Jocelyn Reeves at 919.678.1651 or jreeves@sportsproperties.com.

In addition to Hill Carrow, the NC2011 Speakers Bureau includes Nicole Stalker, Figure Skating Director at the Greensboro Ice House, and Newbold Black, former international figure skating judge. Presentations can include video and PowerPoint elements if desired.
