New Website Launched
Wednesday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day, marked a big moment for the 2011 US Figure Skating Championships Local Organizing Committee. But instead of green as a primary color, it was all about the red, white, and blue, as NC2011 relaunched its website.
Compliments have been pouring in thanks to the great work of BEM Interactive in completely revamping the www.northcarolina2011.com site. The site is now more colorful, more dynamic, easier to navigate, and really helps further build the excitement for America's most prestigious figure skating event.
The home page features the 2010 national champions in each of the four disciplines as they captured the crown in Spokane in January. Click on those images and you are connected to a variety of photos of US Figure Skating's top athletes in Ladies, Men's, Pairs, and Ice Dancing competition.
"This second generation of the North Carolina 2011 web site communicates the excitement and commitment North Carolinians have for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships," said Malinda Pengelly, president of BEM Interactive. "A new mobile version of the site allows for easy access for mobile users. Digital marketing initiatives will ramp up in the coming weeks including aggressive search and social marketing campaigns. Targeted e-mail campaigns and opt-in text messaging will keep fans up to date on events as they occur."
Road Show
NC2011 is maintaining a hectic pace when it comes to being out and about and doing presentations to continue to build grassroots awareness of the 2011 US Figure Skating Championships.
The continued excitement of the Vancouver Winter Games was very evident at NC2011 presentations in March. The month began with a presentation on March 2 to the Piedmont Triad Sports Club at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. This was followed the next day by a major presentation to the Raleigh Sports Club, which marked the first-ever figure skating presentation in the decades-long history of the club. The Raleigh Sports Club presentation had approximately 200 attendees who came away much more knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the upcoming 2011 US Championships.
Subsequent March presentations included the Chapel Hill Rotary Club and the Forsyth County Tourism Authority, whose membership is primarily comprised of hotels and visitor attractions in Forsyth County, next door neighbor to Greensboro and Guilford County. Hill Carrow, the NC2011 presenter, discussed the area-wide effects of hosting the 2011 US Figure Skating Championships and benefits throughout the Triad region of North Carolina.
The month of March ended with a bang with a joint presentation by Paul Wylie, NC2011 Honorary Chair, and Hill Carrow, NC2011 Chair---a first for the organization---to the Charlotte Downtown Rotary Club. More than 200 attendees especially enjoyed getting to hear first-hand from Paul Wylie, who was a 15-time competitor at the US Championships and won national championship titles at every level of competition: Novice, Junior, and Senior/Elite.
Smucker's Stars on Ice Tour
Some of the Vancouver Olympians and a number of former US Figure Skating greats will appear in the Smucker's Stars on Ice Tour which visits the RBC Center in Raleigh on Friday, April 9. This is the only collective visit to the Carolinas by figure skating stars before the 2011 US Championships get underway on Saturday, January 22, 2011.
NC2011 will have a presence at the Smucker's Stars on Ice event including concourse booth location for ticket sales and information. We also will be distributing information about the 2011 US Championships and will be facilitating extended athlete media interviews and coverage by local NC media in anticipation of the Championships next year.
