Kerrigan and Wylie Snow the Audience

The annual Sealy/Fox8 Holiday Concert at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex on Friday, December 18 had the look of the holidays thanks to a rare (at least for the Carolinas) major December snow storm. The event gained a new tradition with the addition of two of America's most accomplished skaters. Nancy Kerrigan, Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist, and Paul Wylie, Olympic Silver Medalist, who joined local skaters, vocalists, ballet dancers, and the featured Greensboro Symphony for a holiday extravaganza that will surely be considered one of the most memorable of all time.

Paul and Nancy's participation in the Holiday Concert was courtesy of the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Both skaters did a number of media interviews and expressed their enthusiasm for the Figure Skating National Championships and the host venue.

The show was beautifully choreographed by Lance Travis and Nicole Stalker of the Greensboro Ice House. Local skaters from the Summit Figure Skating Club were joined by Haley Dunne, former Greensboro resident who returned to skate with the her former club members, and who will compete at the 2010 U.S. Championships this month in Spokane.

Athlete Health in Good Hands

Moses Cone Health System, the dominant health care provider in Guilford County, site of the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, has joined the U.S. Championships sponsor team as a Silver Sponsor and Official Health Services Provider.

Tim Rice, President and CEO of the Moses Cone Health System, said, "This sponsorship is an ideal fit for the Moses Cone Health System. There is no better way to demonstrate that we deliver world-class health care than by supporting and treating some of the best athletes on the planet."

The Moses Cone Health System has more than 10 major medical and outpatient facilities, anchored by Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, serving the residents of Guilford, Rockingham, Randolph, Forsyth, and Alamance Counties. With its renowned sports medicine practice, the 7600 health professionals at Moses Cone are excited to focus on ensuring the very best care for America's top figure skaters.

Promoting the 2011 U.S. Championships

The first major sponsor promotion for the US Championships concluded on New Years Eve, with Presenting Sponsor Lowes Foods offering the chance to win a complete VIP package including tickets and accommodations at the Proximity Hotel for the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Lowes reports that the promotion has been very popular and thousands of entries were received prior to the deadline.

Faryn Driscoll, Operations Director, and Scott Cudmore, of the Polar Ice Houses in Wake County, braved the cold and wind in downtown Raleigh on Friday, December 4 to help kickoff the Winterfest celebration, promote the 2011 Championships,  and open the City of Raleigh's first-ever outdoor rink. The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships helped connect Downtown Raleigh organizers with local skating clubs who are providing skate instructors and venue monitors during the rink's 60-day run.

Nicole Stalker and Summit Figure Skating Club members manned the 2011 US Figure Skating Championships booth throughout the multi-day run of Disney on Ice at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, December 4-6. Throughout all eight Disney performances, our volunteers reported that the Disney audiences were some of the most enthusiastic yet about the coming U.S. Championships.

January Promises to Be Big Month

January doesn't just mark the new year, it is National Skating Month which features the 2010 US Figure Skating Championships in Spokane and celebrates the one-year-to-go mark for the 2011 US Championships in Greensboro. The Local Organizing Committee for the 2011 U.S. Championships is taking a delegation of 20 to Spokane to study the 2010 event and promote the 2011 Championships.

The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will have an attractive booth in Spokane to distribute information about, and answer questions on, Greensboro and the Nationals. Ticket order forms will be available and tickets can be purchased on the spot at the North Carolina booth.
