First-Ever North Carolina Skating Summit
North Carolina 2011 convened the inaugural NC Skating Summit on Thursday, October 22 at the Sheraton Greensboro. Figure skating clubs represented at the summit included Carolinas Figure Skating Club, Central Carolina Skating Club, Skating Club of North Carolina, Summit Figure Skating Club, and Triangle Figure Skating Club. Also participating were the following rinks: Cary Polar Ice House, Extreme Ice, Factory Polar Ice House, Greensboro Ice House, and the Triangle Sportsplex.
The goals of the Summit were to 1) build relationships among clubs, rinks, and the U.S. Championships Local Organizing Committee, and 2) plan joint marketing efforts to grow the sport in North Carolina and ensure the success of the 2011 Championships.
Hill Carrow, NC 2011 Chairman, emphasized that the NC Skating Summit was intended to foster cooperation and collaboration among North Carolina's figure skating family for the benefit of all family members.
Towards this end, there were preliminary discussions of a North Carolina Figure Skating Association and the development of a statewide figure skating leadership team.
Taking the Show on the Road
During October, NC 2011 staff did presentations on the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships to the Stratford Rotary in Winston-Salem (Faryn Driscoll), Southwest Durham Rotary, Downtown Raleigh Rotary, and Rotary Club of Western Forsyth County (Hill Carrow).
Lance Travis of the Summit Figure Skating Club and Nicole Stalker, Figure Skating Director for the Greensboro Ice House, promoted the 2011 U.S. Championships at the 2010 South Atlantic Championships in Washington, DC, October 9-11.
Meanwhile, Faryn Driscoll, NC 2011 staff, together with Scott Cudmore, Wake Forest Polar Ice Figure Skating Director, and Beth Campbell of Triangle FSC, promoted the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Carolina Hurricanes game against the St. Louis Blues on October 28 at the RBC Center in Raleigh. And Hill Carrow even got a major plug in for the National Championships at a Raleigh-Durham area luncheon for the local NCAA Men's Basketball coaches!
We enjoy taking the U.S. Figure Skating Championships show on the road. If you would like a speaker to present to your club or group, simply contact Jocelyn Reeves at 919-678-1651 to make a booking.
Sneak Peak at November
Probably the biggest project in the works for November is the planned launch of Mini-Ticket Packages. While there are still a number of details to be worked out before sales can begin, Mini-Packages would provide a program of featured U.S. Championships events - for example, all the Championship weekend events - for a single ticket price.
Mini-Packages are some of the most popular tickets for the U.S. Championships, so be on the lookout for news about the big launch date.
Skate America, a part of the International Skating Union's annual international competition series, makes a stop in Lake Placid, New York, November 13-15. North Carolina 2011 will be there on site with a booth to promote the 2011 U.S. Championships.
The other big news for November is the pending launch of a major promotion for 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships Presenting Sponsor Lowes Foods. It promises to be an exciting consumer sweepstakes expected to get underway prior to the end of the month.
